Painting Battle Battered 509th PIB

The paint used on this Battle Battered version is the same as on our other helmets. It is an Olive Drab tint used by the U.S. Army between 1936 and 1944. The 509th PIB camouflage has been patinated like the rest of the shell.

Texture Battle Battered 509th PIB

The texture of the "cork" is crushed and patinated to give a worn effect to the helmet. This is an appearance found on original US M1 helmets.

Chinstrap Battle Battered 509th PIB

Reproduction of M2 paratrooper helmet chinstraps with nickel-plated snap buttons. They are artificially worn and soiled to give a used and aged appearance to this 509th PIB helmet.

Battle Battered 509th PIB

The 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion (PIB) played a crucial role during the Provence landing in August 1944. This elite paratrooper unit was among the first to land in France for Operation Dragoon, aiming to disrupt German defenses and secure strategic points. A notable anecdote from this campaign is their bold assault on the city of Le Muy, a vital communication hub. Despite fierce resistance, the paratroopers managed to neutralize several enemy positions and capture many German soldiers. Their courage and determination disoriented the enemy, facilitating the rapid liberation of southern France. The 509th PIB remains an iconic unit, symbolizing the bravery of American airborne forces during World War II.

A bit of history

In this American factory, thousands of M1 helmets were pressed, inspected, and painted to equip the Allied forces. A symbol of American industrial ingenuity, the M1 helmet was mass-produced starting in 1941, combining manganese steel and technical innovation. This video demonstrates the intensity of the war effort mobilized on American soil.
