"Battle Battered" 327th GIR 2nd Bn NCO

289,00€

A faithful reproduction of an M1 helmet that belonged to a non-commissioned officer of the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, a unit of the 101st Airborne Division. Restored and patinated by Mon Casque M1, this "Battle Battered" example evokes the helmets worn by time and combat, worn during the final stages of the conflict in Europe. Every detail, paint, markings, and wear, has been recreated by hand to reproduce the authentic appearance of a field helmet.

Sold complete with a 1960s Dutch army fiber liner, an early wartime helmet chinstrap with a raised bar, and a reproduction leather chinstrap stamped with the "HAGERSTOWN LEATHER COMPANY" mark. It has been weathered for a field effect.

About

Shell

The post-war shell with swivel loops has a heavy patina with scratches and dirt replicating field use. It is fitted with a helmet chinstrap featuring a raised bar buckle, a type of buckle characteristic of early-war production. The entire assembly is designed to accurately reflect the appearance of a helmet that actually saw combat.

Liner Fiber

The helmet liner is a replica using a post-war production fiberglass base. To ensure visual authenticity, it has been completely rebuilt with a new suspension system. Although it is based on a modern design, the liner is configured for comfortable use while remaining true to the interior fittings of the period.

Painting "Battle Battered" 327th GIR 2nd Bn NCO

The paint used on this Battle Battered version is the same as our other helmets. It is an Olive Drab shade used by the US Army between 1936 and 1944. The 327th GIR insignia and rank insignia are weathered to match the rest of the shell.

Texture "Battle Battered" 327th GIR 2nd Bn NCO

The texture of the "cork" is crushed and patinated in order to give a worn effect to the helmet. This is an aspect found on the original US M1 helmets.

Chinstrap "Battle Battered" 327th GIR 2nd Bn NCO

Reproduction of early war infantry helmet chinstraps with raised bar, weathered. They are artificially worn and soiled to give a worn and aged appearance to this NCO helmet of the 327th GIR.

"Battle Battered" 327th GIR 2nd Bn NCO

The 327th Glider Infantry Regiment was the "silent" airborne element of the 101st Airborne Division. Unlike paratroopers, the men of the 327th arrived in theaters of operation aboard unpowered gliders (Waco CG-4As). This insertion method, although very risky, allowed them to immediately transport heavy and anti-tank equipment. The regiment distinguished itself from D-Day onward, actively participating in the fighting to secure Carentan in Normandy, and later in the Netherlands during Operation Market Garden. Their role was crucial: to arrive behind enemy lines to quickly reinforce the first waves of paratroopers and hold key objectives until the arrival of ground troops.

A bit of history

In this American factory, thousands of M1 helmets were pressed, inspected, and painted to equip the Allied forces. A symbol of American industrial ingenuity, the M1 helmet was mass-produced starting in 1941, combining manganese steel and technical innovation. This video demonstrates the intensity of the war effort mobilized on American soil.
