About

Shell

US WW2 infantry steel helmet shell of Austrian origin, produced between 1950 and 1990. Original rim seam at the rear. The loops are swivel loops. The shell has been repainted in matt OD (Olive Drab), the colour used by the US Army between 1936 and 1944, and fitted with reproduction early-war infantry steel helmet chinstraps in khaki OD#3 webbing. This shell is painted in the markings of the 2nd Naval Beach Battalion and weathered for an aged, authentic look.

Painting "Battle Battered" 2nd Naval Beach Battalion

The paint used on this Battle Battered version is the same as on our other helmets: an Olive Drab shade used by the US Army between 1936 and 1944. The 2nd Naval Beach Battalion insignia is weathered like the rest of the shell.

Texture "Battle Battered" 2nd Naval Beach Battalion

The "cork" texture has been crushed and weathered to give the helmet a worn look. This is an appearance found on original US M1 helmets.

Chinstrap "Battle Battered" 2nd Naval Beach Battalion

Reproduction weathered early-war infantry chinstrap with raised bar buckle. It has been artificially worn and soiled to give this 2nd Naval Beach Battalion helmet shell a used, aged look.

"Battle Battered" 2nd Naval Beach Battalion

The 2nd Naval Beach Battalion played an essential role in the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944. Tasked with securing the beaches and guiding the troops, they faced perilous conditions. A notable feat was setting up beach markers under heavy fire, making the landing safer for Allied forces and contributing to the success of Operation Overlord.
