About

Shell

US WW2 paratrooper M2 steel helmet shell of Austrian origin, produced between 1950 and 1990. Simulated front rim seam with welded fixed loops. Reproduction M2 paratrooper OD#3 steel helmet chinstraps. Repainted in Olive Drab 7, the shade used by the US Army between 1936 and 1944. The shell has a textured finish thanks to cork added during the painting process.

Liner Fiber

Surplus compressed-fibre M1-type liner of Belgian origin (ABL), converted to a Westinghouse paratrooper version. With sweatband, brown leather chinstrap and neckband. Also has the front eyelet typical of American liners. Sandblasted and fully repainted.

Painting Battle Battered 509th PIB

The paint used on this Battle Battered version is the same as on our other helmets: an Olive Drab shade used by the US Army between 1936 and 1944. The 509th PIB camouflage has been weathered like the rest of the shell.

Texture Battle Battered 509th PIB

The "cork" texture has been crushed and weathered to give the helmet a worn look. This is an appearance found on original US M1 helmets.

Chinstrap Battle Battered 509th PIB

Reproduction M2 paratrooper steel helmet chinstraps with nickel-plated snaps. They have been artificially worn and soiled to give this 509th PIB helmet a used, aged look.

Battle Battered 509th PIB

The 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion (PIB) played a crucial role in the Provence landings in August 1944. This elite paratrooper unit was among the first to land in France for Operation Dragoon, aiming to disrupt German defences and secure strategic points. A memorable episode of this campaign was their bold assault on the town of Le Muy, a vital communications hub. Despite fierce resistance, the paratroopers neutralised several enemy positions and captured many German soldiers. Their courage and determination disoriented the enemy, helping to bring about the rapid liberation of southern France. The 509th PIB remains an iconic unit, symbolising the courage of American airborne forces during the Second World War.
